Shipwrecks and Fantasies: Readings from The Tempest and The Hunting of the Snark

Tempest StormThe Tempest, set on an abandoned island, is “the bard’s” last play. Prospero, with his servant Ariel, weaves magic and wrecks a ship that brings star-crossed lovers to their fates.

In The Hunting of the Snark the Bellman takes the crew on a voyage to find a monster with the Butcher the Baker and a Beaver. A Banker and a Barrister who come along for the ride have nightmares. Finally the Baker finds his fear, sees a boojum and disappears.
